There's no reason you should own just one necklace, but if you had to choose just one, this would be it! It can be worn as a sophisticated short collar with that little sheath dress, or as a sultry necklace with that black tie ball gown.
This wonderfully detailed necklace has no marks on it, surprisingly, but was no doubt made sometime around 1870. It can be worn in a myriad of different ways. The base necklace is 16.5 inches long and sports a fringe of gold drops set with natural pearls. The clasp has a one inch lengthener to adjust for different necklines. Then there's the drop, a wonderful natural pearl star with an old European cut diamond at its center, it attaches to the collar via a pearl-set hanger. It can also be worn as a brooch, either on its own or alongside the collar. Now that's one versatile piece of jewelry.
Exquisitely made of 18 karat gold by a master craftsman, it has been acid tested to verify content. It weighs 35.4 grams, is in excellent condition, as all the pearls appear to be original and are very well color matched. A truly classical work of art.
