Just like people, this wonderful garnet necklace was made to be seen by candlelight. Can't you just see it, glittering deep red to match your cabernet as you sit with friends, eating and drinking in the soft glow. The lovely beads and cut stones flashing out with ruby red fire.
Often called Bohemian Garnets because they were mined in Bohemia, in what is now the Czech Republic. I think they should be called Bohemian because they are dark and earthy and mysterious, just what you need to play the modern day Gypsy. These rough beads of garnet are called 'Pomegranate' garnets because of the unique shape of each hand cut bead and the resemblance to the seeds of this exotic fruit, in fact the word Garnet has it's origins in the Greek word for pomegranate. This necklace showcases 5 glorious strands of beads which can be twisted tighter or looser depending on the desired length. The necklace has a fantastic built in clasp set with four concentric tiers of rose cut garnets surrounding a central stone. Made around 1880, this necklace is in excellent condition. The stringing has been redone in the not too distant past and is quite secure, it has 15 karat gold end caps. The necklace is 17" long and weighs 60.6 grams.
This rich, garnet color can be worn as a neutral and a necklace like this should be a staple in any woman's jewelry wardrobe. It promises to be one you'll go back to again and again.
