Vintage Sapphire and Diamond Night and Day Earrings, French c. 1960

Day into night, night into day and back again. These dramatic 1960's earrings were the perfect solution for the 'modern' working girl. They couldn't be more ready for Martini's and wiggle dresses and dancing to Dino and Sinatra. A girl could go from office to cocktail party in the flip of wrist!

Convertible Night and Day earrings, clip style, easy to take off when the phone rings. Crafted in 18k gold and platinum, each earring top forms a stylized diamond spray. The opposite facing earrings are each set with 5 diamond baguettes, 4 marquis shaped diamonds and 5 round brilliant cut diamonds, each earring has a total diamond weight of about 1.8 carats. For nighttime use, just pop on the sapphire and diamond drops and you are off and running (well maybe not running, not in those shoes anyway!). Each drop is set with .2 carats in diamonds and anchored by a brilliant night-sky blue sapphire of approximately 1.4 carats. Altogether these fabulous earrings contain about 4 carats of diamonds and 2.8 carats of sapphire. They measure 3/4 of an inch high and 5/8 of an inch wide without their drops and with the drops attached they are just shy of 1 3/4 inches long. Together they weigh 14.6 grams.

Made in France around 1960 and marked with the French dog and eagle head marks and a French makers mark that I can't quite make out. If you're going for that perfect Retro 'Mad Men' style, these earrings won't lead you astray. You barn burner, you.
