This special style of Victorian bracelet is often referred to as a 'Gate' bracelet. Legend has it that this is because of the similarities of the design to the gates of an English manor or palace. It is said that men would give these bracelets to their ladies as a sign of commitment, that they would then lock the small padlock and take the key with them when they were away. I don't know if that's sweetly sentimental or just a little chauvinist, but either way the results that we are left with are wonderful and unique bracelets just like this one!
This gate bracelet is hand crafted in 15 karat yellow gold. It must truly have taken a skilled jeweler quite a long time to craft this intricate and silky smooth jewel. The bracelet measures 7.25-7.5 inches and the lock adds about an extra .3 inches, it is just over a half inch wide and weighs 20.8 grams.
Made in Victorian England in about 1890. These nice gate bracelets used to be a bit easier to come by, but I'm afraid a lot of them were melted down in the past few years due to high gold prices, so they are become harder and harder to find.
