The Victorians wore corsets and dark colors, voluminous skirts. The Edwardians wore airy dresses with Empire waists done in pastel. They dropped the large and heavy jewels and started to wear light and airy filigree jewelry set with diamonds and pearls. Like this brooch. Smart, very smart.
Made of 18 karat gold with a platinum top and set with two Old European diamonds and 48 rose cut diamonds. 24 creamy pearls run up and down the sides of the bow. Intricately cut and wonderfully detailed, exceedingly lovely. Measures 2 inches long and 5/8 of an inch wide, weighs 6.4 grams. Circa 1905. It bears no marks and so the metals were acid tested.
Classic, beautiful, feminine, do we have you pegged?
