HUGE Victorian Celluloid & Velvet DOUBLE Photo Album w/Lady & 60 Cabinet Card Photos
As you can see, the album is done in purple/antique white floral velvet, with a celluloid insert. The celluloid insert features a young woman leaning against a pillar. In the lower right hand side, it reads: Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fond. There is ornate antique gold metal scrollwork surrounding the insert.
The sides have two clasps, which work perfectly. As you can see, the page ages still retain their original gold leaf.
Inside, there are 15 pages; each side will hold four cabinet photos. There are 60 cabinet card photos included and all appear to be in superb condition. The pages are all in excellent condition as well, and as you can see, they are quite ornate, with green & white floral detail work.
The spine is tight and the binding intact.
This album measures 16” long, 13” wide & 2” deep.
The condition is remarkable: there is some loss of velvet, mainly on the front/back by the clasps & by the spine, which is to be expected. The celluloid has a raised crease line, which I couldn’t capture in a photo. This may be from the velvet underneath this area, being bunched up. I don’t know, but it has not changed in all the years I’ve had it. There are no cracks, splits, etc. at all to the celluloid. There is light yellowing on the upper left side of the celluloid, as seen in my photos. I would consider the imperfections mentioned as minor, especially for a photo album that’s over 100 years old.
This displays beautifully on a heavy duty stand. If you love Victorian antiques, then you will absolutely love this photo album.
Because of the size & shipping weight of approximately 12-13 lbs., it will be mailed Parcel Post.
