This is truly a rare and wonderful "find". In all my years as a collector and dealer, I have never seen an antique French beadwork display stand. This type of French beadwork dates to the early 1900's to approx. the 40's. This piece has never been used, and still retains its original French hang tag. The workmanship is intricate & spectacular, as you can see in the photos.
I was told this stand would have been used for a communion or as a funeral stand for a child (they would be placed on the grave, and were frequently stolen).
The wired stand & flower stems are wrapped in creamy white cotton floss. The stand is very sturdy & flexible as well. The back "leg" features the original hang tag.
There are seven white & gray/blue flowers & 12 stems of white beaded leaves. Since all the beadwork has been hand beaded onto wire, it's very flexible, so you can adjust the floral/leaf stems & individual leaves & flowers.
The overall condition is superb, with no real flaws. There are only a few small spots on some beads, which were probably caused during storage; the stains/dirt may wash off. Although not a flaw, there are some knots in the creamy white floss, where it was tied off.
The approximate dimensions are: 13" high to the top of the floss wrapped stand & 21" high to the top of the center beaded leaves; it is approx. 9" wide.
This piece would look amazing placed in front of a fireplace or just used as a decorative piece. No matter where you use it, it will look gorgeous; it's oh so Paris Apt. chic & very rare.
This stand will be shipped via insured Parcel Post via the U.S. Postal Service due to the size and weight.
