You are looking at a beautiful vintage covered bowl/biscuit jar, which is covered in rose/deep pink & creamy yellow roses, along with a lot of greenery; this is done in a high quality transfer. Although it has the look of chintz, it is not chintz.
As you can see, the lid & bowl features scalloped edges which have gold gilt; even the bottom of the bowl has a scalloped edge. The lid has a white handle with a bit of gold gilt. The sides of the bowl feature a while handle with just a bit of gold gilt. The inside is pure white.
The bottom reads (in green): Malmaison, Bavaria, with the initials R C & crown.
The overall condition is quite good, with the following imperfections to note: the inside rim has approx. three teensy chips on the inner rim (see photo #7 of two), along with a couple rough areas; there is some gold gilt loss on the top & side handles. One side handle has a hairline crack along the entire top portion which attaches to the bowl (see last photo). It appears sturdy, but if you plan on picking this up by the handles, you may want to reinforce this area with invisible glue. You can’t see any of the imperfections unless you are looking for them. There is a teensy chip to the inside rim of the lid (see pic #8).
The approximate dimensions are: 4” tall, 6 ¾” across the top, from scallop to scallop (each handle adds an add’l 1 3/8” to each side). The actual opening is approx. 5” across.
This vintage biscuit jar/covered bowl will not only make a beautiful display piece, but it’s very useable as well.
