You are looking at an absolutely stunning hand painted wedding kneeler pillow, which was painted in 1950 by listed artist Ruth Joy Hopkins. It is signed Ruth Joy on the top left floral portion (see photo). I was unable to get additional information regarding this wedding pillow, but I kept the tag which was on the pillow when I purchased it. My best guess is, it was commissioned by the couple, a family member or friend, or it may have been a wedding gift from the artist to the couple.
In person, this pillow is glorious! The artistry is superb, as seen in my photos.
The pillow is done in rich wedding-white satin, with matching cord detail around the top edges. The entire pillow features shirring along all sides. The back is plain white satin.
The condition is excellent, with only a small brownish stain in the upper left hand side (see photo). Thankfully it’s in an area where it’s difficult to see. There is a teensy brown “dot” on the front, which appears to be a tiny paint droplet; it’s very, very minor. There are a couple very minor scuffs on the satin in the center.
The size of the kneeler pillow is perfect for use on a single or double bed; 44” long X 18” wide X 5” thick. There is a very cushy pillow insert; there isn’t an opening to take the pillow out.
This wedding pillow is a true work of art by Ruth Joy Hopkins. Whether you plan on using it for your upcoming wedding or displaying it (or both), you will love it; it’s magnificent in every way.
