This is a wonderful antique Cabinet Card from the late 1800’s. The young boy in the photo appears to be a telegram delivery boy.
As you can see, it features a young boy (8 years, 10 months old, as noted on the back), dressed in a great looking uniform, high top shoes with side buttons, tights or very high stockings and a flat brimmed hat. His below-the-knee pants have three buttons on the side. There is an emblem or pin on the front of his hat, but I can’t make it out.
He also has a wonderful bicycle, with thin, large tires and handle bars which slope downwards.
The bottom of the cardboard cabinet card reads: Wesmen, 120 N. Spring, Los Angeles. The back of the card reads: Elmer, but I can’t make out the last name. Below his name it reads: 8 yrs. 10 mo. in pencil.
The overall condition of the cabinet card is fair, with the actual photo portion being in good condition. The cardboard portion has a small piece missing in the upper left corner, with the opposite corner showing some wear. The center left edge has a small piece missing, and the lower right edge is missing a rather large piece. The actual photo is in good condition, with very minor wear to the picture & a light yellow line on the right hand side. I believe you can see the imperfections in my photos.
The cabinet card is approx. 4 ¼” X 6 ½”.
