You are looking at a rare work of art.
This never used C. 40's Schildkraut carryall features a handmade petit point front. The back, sides & top are solid gold metal.
The front petit point work depicts two ladies & a male suitor in a setting which includes a lake, trees & greenery. They are surrounded by beautiful & colorful floral scrollwork.
Inside, there is a mirror which folds downs for additional storage, an unused lipstick tube, a powder section, with the original unused puff & a section which holds a small plastic comb in its original pouch.
Inside the powder section, the original gold foil label reads: "Genuine Hand Made Petitpoint by Schildkraut, 1650 Stitches to the Square Inch". Also in this section, there is a paper which reads: "It took 5 days for a skilled needleworker to embroider the Petit Point used on this item. Appro. No. of Stitches: 23500. Style No. 5125".
Also included & located on the flip side of the mirror, is the original booklet explaining the history & making of petit point; it is called "Romance of Petit-Point". As you can see, the booklet features a yellow silky cord/tassel. The booklet is in mint condition.
The carryall features a gold snake handle with a 4" drop.
The carryall measures 5 ¼" long, 3" wide & ¾" deep.
The condition is superb. There are only minor scratches on the back gold metal portion.
This is such a wonderful rare piece; it certainly would enhance any compact, carryall or purse collection.
