You are looking at a stunning 1920's black velvet & ruched gold satin drawstring purse which has so much detail; everything appears to be original. My guess it's been stored very well, for many, many years.
The sides and bottom are done in gold silk satin ruching with 2 ½" long gold metallic fringe along the bottom & sides; ½" wide gold metallic scalloped trim is above this. There are beautiful French silk ribbon work flowers in petal pink, light blue & cream, along with green feathery leaves in-between each silk flower.
The double drawstring handle is done in gold metallic mesh, which is on top of black cording. There is an attached gold metallic tassel which hangs down on one side. There is another tassel at the end of the drawstring handle; this has a few threads attached to it, which appears to me like someone had attached it to the other side at one time.
The top of the purse is V shaped, so this bends down on one side to form a flap. There are ten antique gold metal rings (five on each side), where the drawstring metallic rope goes through. The handle has a 12" drop.
The inside is completely lined in gold silk satin, which is in mint condition.
The approximate dimensions are: 11" long with the flap down, to the bottom of the ruching & 13" including the metallic fringe. With the flap up, the purse is approx. 16" long; 18" including the fringe. The purse is approx. 11 ½" wide at the widest center portion. As noted above, the handle has a 12" drop.
The overall condition is excellent, with the following to note: there is a tiny lightly discolored round spot on one side of the purse (see pic); this is smooth to the touch & is quite minor. There are approximately five or six areas along the sides/bottom gold ruching which show wear/small splits. Because the fabric is sturdy and double sided, this does not affect the purse in the least. Please note I have lightened the two photos; the true color is shown in the lining photo. The metallic mesh covering the black corded handle has one area where 2" of the mesh has either separated or has worn off (see pic). If you were to shorten the handle, this section could be knotted, so you wouldn't see it. The French ribbon work is mint condition.
This purse is absolutely gorgeous & very ornate; you will love it!
