Amazing 19th Century Black Chantilly Lace Parasol w/Ornate Carved Bone Handle with Roses/Leaves

The parasol is done in black Chantilly lace with scalloped bottom edges. The original 9" long black & cream silky tassel is attached to the finial. There is a double layer of cream silk lining, which also features scalloped edges. The lining has a tone-on-tone design around the edges (see pic).

The carved bone handle portion is 9 5/8" long; it features carved roses & leaves. The bottom portion features four small round openings, with four 1" long openings below this; originally this would have had a silk ribbon through it.

Above the bone handle is a 1 ¾" long silver metal piece, which you gently push up so the handle collapses for storing. There is a cream color round reed above this. The parasol opens & closes perfectly. PLEASE NOTE: when you open the parasol, I would recommend holding onto the reed portion and not the bone handle.

The overall condition is excellent, especially when you consider it is well over 110 years old. The bone handle has an approx. ¾" long stress line, which doesn't affect the handle in the least. The upper reed portion of the handle shows paint wear. There are two splits in the silk located in the center, one being larger than the other (1" & 2 ½"). There are very minor tears in the silk above the upper metal piece you push up to open the parasol. The scalloped portion of the lining shows minor wear only. Because the tears are on the bottom layer of the lining, you don't see the imperfections through the lace; the top lining is perfect, so the Chantilly lace shows beautifully. The lace is perfect, with no flaws to note. My photos show the imperfections noted above.

The parasol is 25" long, from the top of the finial to the bottom & 14 ¾" when collapsed. The circumference is approx. 54" around the scalloped portion & is 28" across the domed top, from longest scalloped edge to edge.

This is an exceptional looking antique parasol in superb condition; you will absolutely love it!
