Outstanding 1920's Black Velvet & Steel Beaded Purse with Steel Beaded Fringe
The metal frame is beautiful; it's been painted antique gold, which is original to the frame and features steel beads, which form a leaf & scroll design.
The ¾" wide handle use to be black silk velvet, but there are only small remnants left; the double handle is now a sturdy black silk. The handle has a 7 ½" drop. As you can see, there are four small triple rows of steel beads or marcasites on the bottom portion of each handle. The handles are attached to matching antique gold metal rings.
The champagne color silk satin lining is a replacement, but it appears to have been sewn professionally; it has a very clean look.
The overall condition is excellent, with very minor bead loss and darkening. There's a teensy area near a side seam where the velvet nap is missing; it appears to be where a bead is missing (see last pic). There appears to be a couple beads missing from the frame. Everything I have mentioned is extremely minor and difficult to see/find.
The dimensions are as follows: 18 ¾" from top of handle to bottom of fringe: 9 ¼" from top of frame to end of the body, excluding the fringe & 7" across the widest bottom part. As noted above, the fringe adds an additional 1 ¾" in length.
This is an outstanding purse in outstanding condition. It would certainly be a great addition to any purse collection.
