This Victorian era fireplace screen is absolutely gorgeous & quite heavy as well! The entire piece is done in glass beads, and the colors and floral design are truly spectacular. As you can see, the glass beads are done in shades of turquoise, deep royal blue, light/dark gray, black brown, white, lavender & a bit of dark green. The 3 ½"-4" long beaded fringe is done in some of the same colors. The right side features braided cording which needs to be stitched down; there are two pieces of cording with two tassels hanging down from this. Areas of the cording have age relate fraying, but it's still strong. The tassels have some beadwork remaining, but the majority is missing, so it's mostly silky brown thread strands. The same applies to the beaded fringe; the brown fringe is actually the silky brown thread strands which once held glass beads. Since it's rather even-looking, it actually appears to have been made that way, but of course, it wasn't. There is cording surrounding the entire piece, which has faded over time.
There is cardboard in between the beadwork & the silk backing. The silk is torn and frayed and needs to be replace. The cardboard is creased in areas, so that too needs to be replaced or taken out entirely (which is what I'd personally do). The cardboard has some writing on it, which I can't entirely see (see pic). Please note, the cardboard is creased entirely on one side (see pic of back-the silk is creased in this area), so when it's shipped, this portion will turn upwards on the box. I don't want you to think this was done during shipping.
I don't see any missing beads on the center portion; if there are any, they don't stand out. There is a small area on the left side (see pic #7), where a few beads are missing above the cord; this is very minor. Some of the beaded fringe is fragile, so some may fall off when this is shipped. When I purchased this piece many years ago, I was given beads that had already fallen off, so those will be included. I would consider this fireplace screen to be in wonderful condition, especially for being over 100 years old.
The approximate dimensions are: 22 ¼" long from the top to the bottom of the fringe in the center; it is approx. 16" wide at the widest point.
This is an absolutely stunning antique fireplace screen, done in glorious colors with a beautiful floral design. You will love it.
