This is a lovely all original automaton made by Leopold Lambert in 1889. The piece is quite large, standing 21" tall and measuring 15" deep and 12" wide. A girl is seated on a chair knitting gloves while a little doll swirls by her side. The movements on this piece are amazing: when wound she moves her head back and forth then leans over and blinks her eyes while moving both hands back and forth quickly to knit the gloves. Meanwhile, a french mignonnette dances at her feet - the mignonnette has a restored arm and replaced mohair wig. It is removable from the metal rod that sticks out of the base. The top of the rod is worn so a replacement metal tube was made that fits over it. The larger doll has a fabulous bisque head that is marked DEP Simon & Halbig 1039 and bears the WIMPERN red stamp on the back of the head. Her bisque head is free from any hairlines or damage. She has wonderful blue glass eyes that are on a rocker so that she can blink as one of her movements. She has her original brown human hair wig that is arranged in braids. Her couture clothing is original along with her elaborate hat and shoes. The automaton has its original brass plate that reads "Au Paradise Des Infantes 156, Rue de Rivoli, 158 Paris Jeux, Articles Exclusive, Jouets. Her bisque hands are perfect and she holds her celluloid knitting needles. She has a ball of yarn attached to her gloves in her antique wooden sewing basket at her feet. There is also an antique box that has a label bearing a cat! The key is marked LB for Leopold Lambert. This is an opportunity to own a very rare and elusive automaton in wonderful working condition.
