This is a gorgeous Limoges hand painted fernier, dated 1895. The design strongly supports that it was made by d'Albis & Romanet, Limoges and decorated by an unknown artist with the initials of "A.K." (signed on the bottom in gold.) It is dedicated or presented to "Ed & Oma 1895" and was probably a wedding or anniversary gift. Ferniers are similar to planters and jardinieres but as the name implies, were intended to hold ferns. This lovely piece has a beautiful design of lilac to purple flowers (Iris, I believe) on each side with the flowers outlined in gold with green leaves. (The photos may show the flowers as blue but they are more in the lilac to purple range). The interior is painted a pale green with a satin finish. The swan design handles as well as the four feet are in gold as well. The fernier measures 6" tall x 10" wide x 8" deep and weighs approximately 2.5 lb. There is a minor bit or rub wear to the handles but otherwise it is in fabulous condition...no chips, flakes, cracks, repairs, etc. A truly gorgeous, unique piece.
