Exquisite Antique French Enamel Lemiere Opera Glasses Extended Handle
The piece has the most marvelous enameling on copper on both the handle and the glasses themselves. The handle has a background color of a deep vibrant metallic green with the painting being that of a woman resembling a Grecian goddess; dressed in pink and holding a gold foil wreath.
The main part of the glasses has the same gorgeous green background color and each side has a Grecian goddess dressed in shades of pink and riding a gold chariot. There is a blue butterfly following each chariot.
The detail of the paintings and fine design is truly amazing. The glasses have their own gray velvet carrying case (which looks to be the original) with its drawstring closure.
The glasses are marked Lemiere Opticien Fabricant on top of one lens. The other lens gives the manufacturer's address as 5 Avenue De L'Opera Paris.
They measure 3 1/2" in length and are 1 3/4" high. The handle is 4" long. They are in wonderful condition with fully operational and crisp optics. All the paint, gilding and enameling seem intact. This is truly a very fine antique. You will be hard pressed to find as good an example as these, anywhere, for under $1500 to $1800, but I acquired these at a good price from a quality estate auction, so I'm always willing to pass on a bargain to some lucky customer.
