I am adding a second watch holder and vanity box from that fabulous Park Avenue estate. This one is also in the form of a chair.
It is made of bronze ormolu and red velvet. The top has a large beveled glass mirror with a curved top. Above the mirror is a hook so that the lady of the house could hang her pocket watch. There is a platform behind this, covered in red velvet.
The seat of the chair is actually a square box with a hinged lid covered in the velvet. It opens to reveal a precious 19th century print of a boy and girl and their toys. The bottom of the box is lined in red silk.
The box and mirror rests on a bronze ormolu frame. The chair actually resembles a piere deux or French prayer style chair. Perhaps this was done intentionally?
As previously mentioned in the other pieces from this estate it retains its original Sotheby's New York auction label. It measures 4 1/2" high and the box measures 3" by 2 3/4". It is in good antique condition, with some wear to the fabrics and to the ormolu. There are a few small black spots on the mirror, all in keeping with the age of the piece.
