Antique 19th C Black Forest Telescoping Book Rack

This wonderful hand carved book rack or book slide dates from the late 19th to early 20th Century, and comes from the Black Forest region of Germany or Switzerland.

The piece is beautifully carved in a floral design of a mountain flower and leaves. It is a very practical addition to ones office, as it expands to 21 1/2" and can hold a plethora of books, or leave it closed at its smaller length of 15" for just a few favorites.

The piece when closed is 15" in length and the ends fold down to make storage easy, however I can't imagine why one would want to put this gem away. It is great antique condition and makes a great gift for the man or woman who has everything.
