For all you fine art connoisseurs, comes this lovely 19th Century copy of the famous Gainsborough portrait "The Blue Boy" painted in 1770.
This reproduction is probably German in origin and was done in the latter part of the 19th Century, when it was common to make fine art copies for the emerging middle class.
It is a rather nicely done portrait showing fine skill by the artist. It is housed in an celluloid frame with faux tortoise shell accents.
The oval portrait measures 3 1/4" by 2 1/2". It is surrounded by an embossed metal frame metal, probably bronze. The entire piece measures 5 1/2" by 4 5/8". There is a loop up top for hanging. At some point the portrait had been removed, probably to check for the nature of the medium (as we did the same). It has been taped back in. Otherwise nice antique condition. It is signed by the artist ('Oliver').
