Silverplate Holder With Pink Cased Glass Bride's Bowl/Basket
The tradition of presenting the bride and groom these bowls or baskets was very popular in the late Victorian era.
First I'll talk about the holder which is one of the better examples I have seen in a long time. It has handles on either side, a tad different than the usual handle round the top. It also has fabulous chased designs of birds and flowers. It has a very Aesthetic era design which leads me to believe it dates between 1895-1910.
The large ruffled edge bowl is cased satin glass with a deep pink interior and white exterior. The edges of the ruffles are done in clear glass. All handblown.
The entire piece measures 8" in height and is 14" wide handle to handle. It is fine antique condition. Note some of the pictures of the base were taken with flash so they appear a bit brighter than actual. The interior of the basket is a brighter silver color, as it was manufactured. There is no significant loss to the silver plate that I can ascertain.
