Antique English Papier Mache HP Face Screen Signed
the painting is extremely well done, showing a country farm house with what looks like a thatched roof. There is a lad meandering down the lane dressed in 18th Century attire. The painting is done in muted shades of brown and green. On the bottom is written Stockwell England Tettenhall. I am guessing Stockwell is the place and Tettenhall is the artist.
The screen has a lathe turned handle that had been gilded, but much of the gilding is worn. There is some minor crazing to the papier mache and the handle is a bit loose. There also seems to be a repair on the bottom left, and some minor paint loss on the house. It still has a fabulous look and to me more interesting to have your painting on a screen that on plain old canvas.
The piece measures 16" in length and is about 10 1/2" wide. Its size necessitates shipment by parcel post.
