This adorable piece dates to the mid 19th Century. It was most likely a souvenir item brought back from France by wealthy Americans doing the "Grand Tour".
This miniature basket is made of metal wire, and still retains its bright gold finish. It has a center circular medallion done in reverse painting, (eglomise), showing a Paris street scene. I believe you see the Sacre Coeur Cathedral in the background with another grand building in front. There are people walking in the foreground. Nicely done.
The basket, which can be used to hold small trinkets, measures 3 3/4" in diameter. It stands 4 1/4" tall to the top of the handle. The eglomise center has a 1" diameter. It is in very fine antique condition.
