More from that estate of the "little old lady". This one was passed down through her family and dates to the early 1900's.
It is a gorgeous piece which can ne worn as a brooch or pendant, made of 14 karat yellow gold with robbins egg blue enameling and precious rubies.
The piece is not hallmarked but has been carefully acid tested as to gold content. It has a central blue enamel oval. This is surrounded by scalloped gold pieces that have small, approximately 1mm rubies, set into the frame. There are ten of these rubies.
The center of the oval has an applied gold leaf design resting on top of the enamel that has an exquisite gold texture. There is a central gold flower with seven additional rubies, approximately 3mm each, at its center. The piece closes with a tube type safety clasp, often found in jewelry from this period. There is a gold bale at top that may have been added at a later date, but certainly makes the piece more versatile.
The brooch/pendant measures about 2" by 1 1/2". It weighs a very substantial 15.3 grams. It is in fine antique condition.
