This is a lovely old Blue Willow transferware plate from Allertons, Ltd., Longton, Staffordshire, England. Allertons was in business from 1859 until 1942. The particular backstamp on this plate dates to the 1929-1942 era. This 10" diameter plate is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, flakes, discoloration, or other damage of any sort. It does show some utensil marks on the surface from years of use, but is still a beautiful example.
As the old rhyme says,
"Two birds flying high. A Chinese vessel, sailing by. A bridge with three men. A willow tree, hanging o're. A Chinese temple, there it stands, Built upon the river sands. An apple tree, with apples on, A crooked fence to end my song."
A beautiful display piece or great to fill out your set!
As always, all reasonable offers are welcomed and considered.
