This wonderful poppy print is by the artist Max Theodore Streckenbach (1863 - 1936) . It's a superb study of richly-hued Oriental poppies, both in full bloom and rounded bud heads. There are also creamy white viburnum snowball hydrangeas awaiting their turn to be added into the vase. Streckenbach was a master at portraying the poppy and other Summer flowers, and this one is outstanding in every way. The Language of Flowers says that the scarlet poppy symbolizes "Fantastic Extravagance", as it surely does! The hydrangea symbolized "Boastiness".
The print is in near FINE condition with no fading or blemishes. Truly, this is one of the most beautiful pieces by Streckenbach we've ever had, and it is LARGE. Overall size with the composite gold frame is aprox 21 x 24 inches, again with minimal wear. This print is a perfect focal point for any poppy grouping. It is signed lower right "Max Streckenbach". There is a companion print of poppies and delphiniums in a matching frame in our shop too! These old poppy prints are becoming increasingly hard to find!
