Huge 1880's CUPID Print Engraving Perrault Love Sleeping Vintage Gesso Frame
This absolutely wonderful antique print/engraving is by the artist Leon Perrault. It depicts a superbly detailed cupid asleep in the grass, tenderly holding his bow, with a quiver secretly hidden behind his hip area. Overhead are rose bushes, and below is the water's edge with little lily pads. It is entitled "Sleeping Love", and is truly magnificent. The details are wonderful, and the cupid's facial expression absolutely endearing. Signed lower right edge. These old large engravings are very scarce. This study was printed for the Moderne Kunst, and was engraved in Berlin in the 1880's. It has the usual center fold, which is minimized and lays very flat. Even the accompanying margin areas are intact. (Please note: the fold looks more pronounced in the photo, only because the photo was sharpened. The engraver's lines are also hard to capture in a photo, rest assured the image is crisp and clear, not the moire effect shown.) This study was also used by Godey's Magazine.
