Antique 1894 Cabbage ROSES Print Virginia Janus Half Yard Long Chromolithograph

This splendid roses print, entitled "Love's Offering", is by the Victorian artist, Virginia Janus. It is a woven basket full of old cabbage roses, which have that soft, heavy-headed look that was typical of the old roses before they were hybridized. No doubt this study was freshly harvested, and the roses had a sweet scent to match. Janus was a peer of both Paul de Longpre and Catherine Klein, painting at the same time, and exhibited at several of the same art shows during that period.

This print is a half yard long chromolithograph, with outstanding color. It was produced by the Chicago Tribune Newspaper, as an Art Supplement on March 4, 1894. The print is in VG++ condition with minimal wear, and displays beautifully. It is housed in a quarter-sawn oak frame, with ornate burnished brass corner embellishments, which have rose bouquets and leaves that compliment the study perfectly. It is also in VG++ condition. Overall size is 9.5 x 17.25 inches. We do welcome all layaways, so have a peek in our shop, where you can often combine items to save on postage!
