If you are one of the many who love Earl Grey tea, you are familiar with the sublime fragrance of the rare bergamot oranges that make it so distinctive. Almost all of the world's bergamot is grown in the southern Italian region of Calabria, home of some of my ancestors. I use it as a key note in many of the fragrances that I make for myself. It colors are gorgeous: a vivid purple blossom and a greenish-yellow fruit, symbolic of Calabria's gentle warm spring.
Those colors inspired these feminine new earrings: the predominant colors are from the lovely natural lemon quartz, which contains a good deal of green hue, in 8mm. finely faceted rondelles, and 15mm. faceted marquise briolettes. The closed ring features 4mm. smooth rounds of purple quartz (very likely color-enhanced) and nephrite jade. All are worked on sterling silver-filled pins and tiny bead accents. There are a total of 24 in the pair. They hang from beaded sterling silver posts.
The earrings measure a bit over 2 & 1/8" total. They are light-to-medium weight on the ear. Feel a soft Calabrian spring breeze and the enchanting fragrance of bergamot in these pretty earrings, my Lady. The last scan is a Bergamot Orange illustration, from the famous Victorian handbook Koehler's Medicinal Plants.
All metals are sterling silver and sterling silver-filled. All gems are genuine. I can shorten them by removing the top lemon quartz bead if you wish.
