The Great Inca Priestesses Earrings Rhodochrosite Pink Opal Silver
No gemstones but rhodochrosite and pink Peruvian opal would do for these: rhodochrosite was known as the Rose of the Incas, and was sacred to that culture. The Inca Priestesses would certainly have worn it. It was immediately popular in Europe when brought back from Peru and Argentina. Peruvian opal is the national gemstone of the country.
The 8mm. rounds are grade A rhodochrosite (meaning there is a minimum of gray or tan striations in the banding) and 8mm. rondelles are softest blush-pink Peruvian opal. They are worked on a sterling silver heavy gauge jewelry pin with granulated beaded ends. The sterling silver beaded posts echo the beaded pins. The fluted flower beadcaps are sterling silver. They measure a total of 1 & 7/8" long.
All metals are sterling silver, except the 4mm. rounds which are sterling silver-filled, and all gems are genuine.
These would retail in a historical reproduction jewelry catalog for about $90, but they would not be handcrafted artisan earrings like these. Feel like a Priestess of the ancient Incas wearing them. The last scan, of course, is the Inca sacred city of Machu Picchu. One of my dearest friends, who helped inspire these earrings, climbed Huayna Picchu, (the peak *above* Machu Picchu) and has been known since then as the Woman With Altitude.
