French Santon de Provence Clay Figure Doll Fruit Peddler

We offer a vintage Santon Doll or figure from France. This gentleman has a basket of what I think it fruit. Santon figurines have a long colorful history. There are many websites that discuss them. Originally made to be part of creche scenes at Christmas time. This figure is approx 10 3/8 inches tall. His face is handpainted and made of clay as are his forearms. He is on a wood base that is cut from a tree branch. The original Santon sticker remains. It says Syndacat Des Santonniers De Provence Veritable Santon d'Argile. The artist mark is on the back of the base behind the figure. I believe it says Sylvette Amy. There is no damage that I can see.

I found the following on the internet about Santon figures.

Santons have come to typify the people of Provence, their work and their trades, and they are generally depicted in 19th-century dress. A typical santon scene has as its center piece the Holy Family, the Rois Mages (the Three Kings) and angels. Shepherds call Provencal villagers to honor the Holy Family (the important notables of the village, the mayor and the parish priest, the craftsmen, such as the baker, the grocer, the butcher, the cheese vendor and musicians). Depending on where the village is located there might be a winegrower, a fisherman, a basket weaver and a potter. Then there are the common people of the village, rich and poor.
