Red Jade Dragon Turtle Chinese
We offer a carved piece of red jade in the shape of a dragon turtle. The stone tests as jade on my gem tester. We purchased this and many other pieces at a recent estate sale. The family had traveled extensively in Asia for many years. I don't know the age on the piece, however, I know it is older than 20 years. There is a hole below the head of the dragon. I don't know if perhaps this had another piece attached. Over all it's about 2 1/2 inches tall and about 4 by 5 inches on the shell. I don't see any damage.
My research tells me that "A dragon turtle is a legendary Chinese creature that combines two of the four celestial animals of Chinese mythology: the body of a turtle with a dragonlike head. It is promoted as a positive ornament in Feng Shui, symbolizing courage, determination, fertility, longevity, power, success, and support. Decorative carvings or statuettes of the creature are traditionally placed facing the window."
