Russian Lacquer Box Mstera Ice Fisherman
We offer a vintage Russian Lacquerware box handpainted depicting an Ice fisherman. I might be wrong, but I believe this is a scene from a fairy tale. I seem to remember something about a golden fish. The box is signed at the bottom. I've given close ups. I recognize Mstera as the village of the artist's shop. The rest, it's in cyrillic and I'm not able to translate. I believe the last two letters are the initials of the artist A.K. The box is approx 3 by 5 3/8 inch at the top and about 1 5/16 inches tall. There is surface wear on the bottom from being moved across a table surface. There is no damage that we can find. The inside is bright red.
The artwork in these Russian pieces is fascinating. Beautifully done, bright and colorful. This is one of several pieces we purchased from a collection. The couple were one of the first to travel to Russia after the wall came down. They brought back many treasures.
