Blue and White Staffordshire Warming Dish ca. 1835-40

Blue and White Staffordshire Warming Dish These clever dishes were meant to keep food warm when delivered to a room at distance from the kitchen. The reservoir was filled with hot water, and a meal could be kept warm. The blue transfer is Asian inspired with vase, flowers and bamboo. Nice and bright, good shiny glaze.

Marked with printed "Semi China" mark. English, circa 1835-40

Size: Plate section approximately 9.875" diameter; 11" extreme width, 2.375" high.

Condition: Excellent. slight flake under one scallop of the covering over sealed spout opposite the open one. Small glazed-over rim chip during manufacture. No other chips, cracks or repairs.

Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, I would expect a return if I happen to miss anything.
