White Ironstone Cup, "Prairie Shape"

Whether due to custom or cost, handle-less cups were still in use in the second half of the nineteenth century. This particular wheat design was registered by J. Clementson in 1862 as their "Prairie" shape. Wheat was a popular design motif in nineteenth century ironstone (perhaps due to the large sets of dishes used on farms at harvest time when additional workers were hired). Unmarked.

Size: Top diameter approximately 3.5", 3" high.

Condition: Excellent. No chips, cracks or repairs.

Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, I would expect a return if I happen to miss anything.
