This is a very beautiful and unique Belleek pitcher. The size is just perfect and it’s not the ordinary lemonade or cider pitcher. The artist has painted the entire pitcher in a beautiful ocean scene with black and white seagull as the main focus. He has placed a few sail boats in the horizon amongst the breaking waves of the water. The ocean blue melts beautifully into the blue sky. He has accented the sky with just a hint of pink giving it the feel of a sunrise or sunset setting. He complements this piece with a roman coin gold handle and trim on the opening. The pitcher is in excellent condition with not cracks, chips or crazing. I can just imagine this in someone’s lake or ocean side house, what a beautiful addition.
From approximately the early 1880s to about 1930 several companies in the United States were producing fine porcelain. They called it "American Belleek" named so because they felt the quality of the porcelain was as good as that of the "Irish Belleek" but it was made in America; and the American market seemed prejudiced against china and porcelain made in the US so they called it "Belleek. This was the case despite the fact that Irish Belleek is not truly porcelain. Irish Belleek only requires one firing.
