Rare Museum Quality 134 Yr Old Gien Faience / Majolica Ewer~ 8" H ~ Hand Painted Turquoise and White Enamel Flowers ~ Gien 1876
This is a fantastic piece of faience pottery by Gien of France and a very rare find. They have started out with a wonderful deep brick red or burgundy background inside and out on this piece. Covering the ground color is a golden etched transfer of flowers, swirls and geometric designs. They have then added white and turquoise flowers in raised enamel over the golden transfers. This piece is a must have for any faience or majolica collector. The pictures give a brassy look to the gold but when actually seeing the piece the gold is much more subdued. The piece is in excellent condition with only a minor flea bite to the rim.
Note: The light color areas seen on the handle are NOT missing paint. This is sponge gold which is reflecting off the flash.
Backstamp: Gold Gien Stamp Letter GIEN over each other
Measures: 8" H x 4 ¼" W
