Magnificent Dutch Vase circa 1836. 14" High, Cut Crystal & Silver ~Tulip Vase with Rolled Rim & Sterling Silver Base ~ Amsterdam, Netherlands
This is unbelievable that is still in one piece for its age. The glass is very thick and has been cut with thumb prints and concaved flutes designs up the sides and on the rim The rim is rolled and has a Greek key like design sometimes referred to castellated and strongly suggest the parapets (battlements) on a fortified castle. It has been defined as "an alternating high and low parapet at the top of a wall". The old glass is slightly discolored from the liquid once put inside. This possibly can be corrected by a professional glass repairer. With flowers and water in it the discoloration vanishes. If one chose to display without water you can put a light coat of oil on the inside and the white will be gone. The heavy glass sits in a wide silver tiered base. The base has etched designs around the rims and also other geometric designs. The silver base has three hallmarks. This silver mark is from the Netherlands, Amsterdam. Hall mark dates to 1836. "B" in the circle with a .875 purity based on the lion rampant.
Hallmark: city mark for Amsterdam; Crowned Lion Rampant for .875, B in a circle for 1836
