Beautiful vintage 18K Sapphire and Diamond fashion ring, circa 1930's. This ring can be a special piece of jewelry just for you, or it would make a wonderful gift for a loved one. The design and quality are unique with stunning light-catching mounts. Superior in eye appeal and workmanship. This vintage Art Deco style fashion ring is marked 18K and marked ITALY on the gold band. The ring displays colorless "F" diamonds and transparent blue sapphires. There are thirteen (13) transparent blue sapphires in all. The ring has nine (9) square step-cut blue sapphires, and four (4) pentagon shaped blue sapphires. Approximate weight of the sapphires is .65 carats. In addition to the 13 blue sapphires, there are thirty-eight (38) full cut, COLORLESS diamonds with an approximate weight of 1.9 carats. Each diamond graded to "F" color ( colorless ), and VS-2 clarity. The approximate COMBINED weight of the sapphires and diamonds is 2.55 CARATS. The ring weight is approximately 7.7 DWT. Step-cut sapphires offer broad, uninterrupted expanses of color. Step-cuts are reserved for highly transparent sapphire rough, with outstanding color. A step-cut is not used on low-grade gems due to revealing too many of the stones shortcomings. When a step-cut can be used, the purpose is solely to reveal the fine quality of a fine transparent blue sapphire. The parallel arrangement of the step-cut facets allows the cutters to adjust the finished stone's proportions to the shape of the rough crystal. Examples of step-cuts include the square step-cut and the emerald cut. Larger sapphires are rarely given brilliant cuts, more often the larger and higher quality sapphires are step-cut like on this lovely piece.
