Beautiful Majolica Double Handled 11 1/2'' Tray / Platter with Pink / Purple Geraniums ~ Attributed to Griffen, Smith, Hill Etruscan ca 1880's

This is a wonderful piece of old majolica! The colors are still nice and bright on the wonderful raised relief flowers and leaves. Each flower petal is well defined with hint of pinkish purple over white. Deep green leaves are intermingled throughout the flowers giving the piece a nice contrast. The handles are designed as stems going along with the floral theme. There is a 1" chip at the lower portion of this piece otherwise it is in perfect condition. Please see pictures. What a wonderful example of Majolica by the American potter Griffen, Smith, Hill who designed under the trade name of "Etruscan". American potters' efforts to compete with the English often led them to mimic the best designs from across the sea. IT IS RARE TO FIND VINTAGE AND ANTIQUE IRONSTONE OR EARTHENWARE IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE
