Rare Gien French Faience / Majolica RENAISSANCE 12" Platter or Chop Plate~ Decorated with Raised Enamel ~ Gien 1871-1875

This is a wonderful very old platter or Chop Plate made by the French Majolica / Faience Company known as Gien. The decorations have been done in a raised enamel transfer. It has green, blue, gold and mauve leaf like scrolls on the rim with small bell like flowers hanging down from the scroll work. On two side of this piece there are two faces with leaf like designs on top of their heads and below their chins. On each side of the head is a mauve dragon bird like figure of mauve, blue and gold colors. The rim has been decorated with green and blue bell like flowers on a vine wrapping around a brown band. The colorful design has been placed on an creamy ivory background with just a hint of green, which really makes the colors pop! The center portion background is a ivory. IT IS RARE TO FIND ANTIQUE FAIENCE / MAJOLICA IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.

Backstamp: Castle with Gien in banner underneath
