This is a beautiful majolica plate by the well known Choisy-le-Roi faience factory of Choisy-le-Roi, France. They produced majolica from 1860 until 1910. Their wears were commonly marked with a black ink stamped "Choisy-le-Roi" with the large "B". The "HB" stands for Hippolyte Boulenger a director at the pottery. The factory's work was some of the most delicate produced in France. This adorable animal series plate features a mother hen casually eating while her little chicks mimic her actions. The hen is done in nice gray brown colors and the chicks are just raised relief shapes in the grass. Glaze is still nice and shinny giving this piece nice eye appeal. There is a small flea bite on rim, please see pictures. IT IS RARE TO FIND VINTAGE AND ANTIQUE MAJOLICA IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IF PRESENT IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
This would make a wonderful addition to any majolica collection. Please see our other animal series plates listed if you would like more than one!!
