Two Wonderful French China Portrait Plates ~ Monsieur De Malbrough & Don Quichette ~ HAUTIN & BOULANGER - H.B. & Cie Choisy le Roi 1890+

These two are really very interesting plates. They both have wonderful transfers depicting French Scenes. One plate has a shield with Monsieur de Malbrough and another with a lady and squire. I've been told the verbiage says something about Malbrough being dead and buried, possibly that is why the young lady is crying? The other plate has a shield with Don Quichotte in a suite of armor and Dulcinea del Toboso and possibly Sancho Panza possibly on the other. The verbiage reads somethink like: " Dulcinea I have for such a long time grown thinner from love for your beautiful eyes. " Don Quixote rides the roads of Spain in search of glory and grand adventure. He gives up food, shelter, and comfort, all in the name of a peasant woman, Dulcinea del Toboso, whom he envisions as a princess. The backstamp is a new one for us and we have yet to find it, so we are unsure of the exact date of these two pieces. There are no hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.
