Amazing Limoges Porcelain Cabinet Plate ~ Hand Painted by Pickard Artist “ E. Challinor “ with Pink, White & Red Poppies ~ Pickard Studios Chicago IL 1910-1912

This exquisite plate is expertly hand painted with white, pink, and yellow poppies and greenery on a ground of white, soft yellow, and gray-green. He has used soft muted colors except around the center of the flowers and has painted one a deep red. He has painted one stem of several small yellow centered daisy flowers popping up amongst the magnificent poppies. He has placed this bouquet along one side of the plate and has painted a lake scene in the distance with a castle sitting on the shoreline. This piece has been done in such a wonderful style which makes it look like it has been done with a vellum matte-finish paint. Vellum gives a piece a velvet feel and amplifies the soft and distant mood. He has completed this masterpiece with a wide gold rim. The gold on the rim is a little worn but does not distract from the beauty of the art work. This Pickard Studio piece was decorated and is signed by the artist, 'E. Challinor'. Edward Challinor was one of the most notable of Pickard artist. Challinor was a descendant from a family of Staffordshire potters. He served as an apprentice with the Royal Doulton Potteries in Burslem. He also studied at the Newcastle School of Arts in Staffordshire which was an auxiliary of the South Kensington School of Art in London. In 1903 he came to America to seek employment. Challinor found work in Chicago working for Pickard. Challinor because of his considerable skills and prolific output tends to overshadow other Pickard artists. There is slight gold loss to rim. There are no hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.

This would be a great piece of Pickard to add to your collection.
