Fantastic and HUGE PICKARD / Limoges 12 ½" Charger Hand Painted with the Autumn Currants Pattern ~ Artist " Max Rean Klipphahn" ~ Pickard studios / Charles Ahrenfeldt 1898-1903

This gorgeous charger was hand painted by Pickard artist, Maxwell Rean Klipphahn, in the Autumn Currants pattern. Klipphahn was one of Pickard's best and most prolific artist. He did fruits and flowers in naturalistic stylized and conventionalized formats equally well. Klipphahn is listed and his work is shown in Alan B. Reed's reference book 'Collector's Encyclopedia of Pickard China. He has started his masterpiece using a very rich color for the background composed of varying shades of reds and gold's .The currant motif is absolutely magnificent! He has painted them so lifelike and has given them a very three dimensional look. He has mixed golden leaves and brown branches amongst the berries adding that extra naturalistic feel. The rim of the charger is decorated with gold gilt that is in excellent condition completing the piece beautifully. There is a small scuff and 2 flakes. There are no hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.
