Neat French Plate with Transfer of Older Couple Reading Signs ~ UTZCHNEIDER & CO (Sarreguemines, France) - ca 1910s - 1930s

Well, I wish I could read French! I even tried to use a translator on the web to no avail, but thanks to Linda Dannenberg author of New French Country Diary and other French decorating & cookbooks for the translation! The signs the elderly couple are looking at say things like "For Rent Beautiful Farm", "Beautiful Piece of Land for Sale". The bottom says something to the effect of "Damn, it is so depressing to grow old, It has been 10 years since I had any money". Since this plate was made during the depression of the early 1900's it is very befitting. The transfer still has nice bright colors and gives you a look back in the past to when major news and adds were posted on buildings for the town's people to read. We have definitely come a long way! Plate is in excellent condition for its age, no chips or cracks. IT IS RARE TO FIND FAIENCE IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IF PRESENT IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
