Wonderful 11" French Figural Scene Plate / Wall Plaque by Louis Mimard ~ H Boulenger & CO France 1900+
This beautiful wall plaque was made by H Boulenger (Choisy le Roi). It has a beautiful Majolica finish. Majolica is glazed pottery often associated with certain regions of Italy, although it also is produced in other parts of the world.. The common mark is usually a black ink stamped "Choisy-le-Roi", HB or HBC. The "HB" (H Boulenger) stands for Hippolyte Boulenger a director at the pottery. The factory's work was some of the most delicate produced in France. This plaque is a beautiful rendition of a bar maiden being approached by a gentleman customer that apparently had one two many. An older woman inside the building looks on in shock. I don't think the maiden is minding it though; she has a smile on her face! The colors on this plate are still nice and bright and the artwork is very detailed. It has two holes drilled on the back for hanging. IT IS RARE TO FIND VINTAGE AND ANTIQUE MAJOLICA IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IF PRESENT IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE. This would make a wonderful addition to any majolica collection.
