Illuminating French Majolica Cabinet Plate with a White Rose ~ KELLER & GUERIN - ERNEST BUSSIERE (Nancy, France) - ca. 1890s - 1930s

White roses can mean many things to many different people. They can symbolize new beginnings, or be a sign of farewell. They can convey feelings of love, friendship, respect and hope. Underlying all of these messages is the impression of innocence and purity with which white roses are now synonymous. Keller & Guerin have depicted the true beauty of the wonderful white rose by making it the whole focal point of this plate. They have used soft green, grays and blues to form the petals giving each one a three dimensional look. They have added leaves of greens, grays and blues around this huge blossom. The rose has been surrounded by a background of deep grays, blues and greens that soften as it recedes away for the flower. A gold rim completes this beautiful piece. There are no hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.
