Nicely Done Limoges Porcelain Wall Plaque / Plate ~ Hand Painted by Renown Artist "Le Pic" with a Monk Drinking Wine ~ George Borgfeldt ( Coronet ) 1906-1920
The artist "Le Pic" is well documented in the Limoges book by Mary Gaston's 'Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain', 3rd Edition. He has painted a whole series of items depicting Monks. This beautiful mold has a gold, scalloped rim with raised relief scroll work along the edges. He has painted this chunky monk sitting at a table possibly thinking up his next sermon. Of course, he has his glass of wine helping him think! The artist has done a wonderful job on the facial features of this monk and also with his clothing. "Le Pic' has signed this piece taking pride in his art work. The back of the plaque has been drilled to make it easy to hang on the wall. This is one of many of the series with monks on various porcelain items. Imagine a whole collection of these!! There are no chips, hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc. This is a beautiful plate and would make a great gift for that special person.
